Nemo Hornet 2P Tent Review

Nemo Hornet 2P Tent Review

Nemo has been a popular name in the tent-making industry for a long time. And according to many users, one of the top lightweight tents currently available is the Nemo Hornet 2P tent. Let’s find out if it’s true in our Nemo Hornet 2P Tent review.

In our detailed review, find out about the setup, features, performance, and many more.

Setup

The Nemo Hornet 2p tent Canvas is simple to install and takes less than two minutes to finish. The “Y”-shaped lightweight and compact tent pole is connected to the tent at its tip by a safe ball-and-socket mechanism. The cover secures the pole structure by inserting the sole end of the Y into a grommet at the bottom end of the tents.

Here is how you can set it up. The pole parts should first be clipped together. After that, fasten to the foot segment’s center, and the head segment’s ends. Using the included clips, secure the tent’s inside piece to the poles.

Put the fly across the tent’s inside and tack down the tent’s edges. Finally, mark the vestibule space.

Like other semi-freestanding models, the Hornet must also be anchored out at the bottom end to grow to its maximum size and retain a strong frame all over. It shouldn’t be an issue in most locations, but it can be challenging on very rough or root-covered ground.

Comfort and Inner Area

The ability to exit the camp at midnight without disturbing your mate is the most crucial aspect of any 2-person tent. In theory, the Nemo Hornet 2P Tent is comparable to most other lightweight two-person shelters with 27.5 sq ft of floor area and can fit two 20 inches wide resting mats.

Nemo still has two vestibules and doors, making it simple for everyone to enter and exit without stumbling over their campmate. The ability to pull up and secure all doors and the entryways above them with toggle switches is a smart feature that gives a lot of functionality without costing a greater load.

However, the Hornet has very little spare room on either side, and we felt the canvas to be a bit of a squeeze for two people. They do lessen their use compared to bulkier two-person tents with vertical sides and rectangle floors. The main contributing factor is the uneven layout, which is broader at the top portion and significantly tapers downhill, starting at roughly the midsection. The tent has tilting sides and an A design with a high central axis.

Although Nemo just added “FlyBar” pole clips—basically two miniature ridgeline poles at the front and foot end of the tent—to increase headspace, we still believe the Hornet 2P is the best backpacking tent for lone hikers.

Weight and Package Dimensions

The Nemo Hornet 2P tent unquestionably performs as a lightweight tent with a packed total of two pounds, 6 oz. It also occupies very little room in a backpack and compresses to a tiny size (19.5 x 5.5 inches).

But it’s important to note that, like with other lightweight and fastpacking equipment, Nemo eventually made significant sacrifices in terms of interior room and sturdiness to minimize the load. These sacrifices might not bother those interested in traveling swiftly across great distances, but walking a fine line is still vital.

Build Integrity and Reliability

The Nemo Hornet is no different from other lightweight gear because it frequently sacrifices durability. First, even by UL requirements, the fly is minimal since it uses 10-denier (D) ripstop nylon. And the flooring is a fragile 15D, which is often the most significant worry given its constant touch with the rugged and uneven terrain.

Last but not least, the tent cover is mainly made of a thin mesh that offers excellent ventilation and vision through the top of the tent, but you’ll need to be careful to prevent snagging. Therefore, we advise being careful and constantly traveling with a tool kit.

Climate Adjustment and Ventilation

Its strength might often suffer when a shelter is lighter, but the Nemo Hornet 2p Tent  durable DAC Featherlite pole model allows it to hold up well in fairly strong gusts. The exterior materials are leak-proof and watertight. It endures mild rains well.

The Nemo Hornet 2P’s ground is covered in a thin denier cloth. The surface is watertight, but a tiny quantity of rainwater can permeate through the fabric in particularly wet situations. The amount is relatively small and typical for portable tents.

It’s also crucial to remember that while the elevated bathtub flooring and effective seam closing along the canvas body effectively deter rainwater, the rainfly only partially covers the top end of the canvas.

The elevated portion of the rainfly has the advantage of promoting airflow. The Nemo Hornet 2p Tent features excellent ventilation. Its extensive use of netting in the tent frame and a significant air space between the internal canvas and rainfly.

Condensation can accumulate inside if there is limited to no breeze to cross-ventilate the shelter during a severe downpour. The Nemo Hornet is an excellent option for almost all situations, especially hot summer weather because there is virtually little danger of moisture accumulating along the body.

Storage and Vestibules

The multiple vestibules on the Hornet are a major benefit, in our opinion, for two travelers. The twin 7.1-square-foot compartments easily accommodate bags and hiking shoes, which is a very nice feature given the little additional room within the tent.

Price-to-Quality Ratio

Although the Nemo Hornet 2p Tent is not the most affordable option, the trade-off between price, weight, longevity, and value indicates that this tent is a decent deal. The tent can serve you a long time if properly maintained.

This tent checks all the boxes if you’re looking for a light, well-made option for hiking or trekking. Covert camping is a common practice for most people hiking and bike touring. All these make the Nemo Hornet 2P a fantastic shelter for backpacking or cycling travel.

Conclusion

So you can tell from our Nemo Hornet 2P tent review that this is a great lightweight tent for travelers. Make sure it fits your criteria, and you’ll surely have a grand time with this ultra-lightweight trekking tent.
